Generation Me

This will be a short post. I want to post a few links to some articles that touch on the ‘me generation’ and the the related problem that is the oversexualization of young girls. I thought the articles were good enough themselves but it was even more interesting to read the comment sections, especially on the generation diva article.
There is a lot of argument going on out there as to what causes these problems, what we can do, and so on. I don’t think anyone will debate that there is a huge problem though. It’s so bad that some mothers are dressing their daughters like prostitutes for the sake of pageantry, some kids think that teachers and professors exist to make life easy, and some Hollywood stars’ plastic surgery has turned them into something akin to disfigured Marvel comic villains.
I’m not the kind to worry about how bad things are out there, but the articles do serve to show where our society is going with its standards. I read them more as a case in what not to do and what to try to protect my future daughters from.
Ok, I’ll admit that the plastic surgeries make me laugh a bit.
Here is the one on “Generation Me”.
The one about “Generation Diva”.
Plastic faces that may or may not make you cringe.

I”m so sick of the oversexualization of young gals. It’s disgusting to see how girls dress nowadays. It’s been like this for quite a while though. But the ages of the girls dressing this way are getting younger and younger each year. I’ve taught my daughter to dress modestly. I know she wouldn’t be caught dead in what some of the other girls her age wears cause she’s told me how silly they look. A lot of it is in the upbringing.
Kris, it’s reassuring to know that there are lots of people like you who recognize that this is a dangerous thing and actually take action with their kids to stop it.
It is definitely an issue.
Some will blame Britney Spears…they say that she was the idol for so many 11 year olds a few years ago and the marketeers zoned in on it quickly…hence the trashy…slutty design of clothing was born.
Some also say that it is the parents fault as they should monitor their girls better…I have known many young girls that will hide certain clothing in their packs and change on their way to school.
When I look at the young girls here in Florida at Bike week strutting their young bodies on Main street have to wonder why??? Is it for attention…money…or are they really enjoying the idea that they can control with their flesh????
The question…what came first the chicken or the egg comes to mind with whats going on these days.
Is it the men that are giving the attention which creates a demand or is it the girls that are giving the show which create the demand????
Today the morals of yesterday are no where to be found. It sickens me to see how these women feel the need to fall prey to what some men & society deem as sexy and desirable.
Women have cheapened themselves and in turn all other women to the point that men do not respect them which is easily carried on into relationships.
It is an endless story I am afraid. I have more young teens coming into my self-esteem forum looking for advise and some kind of guidance that it really saddens me.
